Power of organized people at School Board

What a turnout! Justice Knox leaders filled the main room and the overflow room of the school board meeting in February and again in March 2024.  At the February meeting, counting 50 people in each room and some people in the hallways in between the rooms, we had over 100 people show up to support our speakers, Pastor Joe B. Maddox, our Co-President and Pastor of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and Erin Keck, Team Leader of the Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan.  Both speakers asked the district to release discipline data so that we can see if our schools are making progress in improving outcomes for our students.  Both asked the Superintendent and school board members to meet with us and to attend our Nehemiah Action!!  Our presence in February prompted an unexpected discussion among Board members and the Superintendent about data in general and discipline data specifically after the public forum and resulted in the release of the data we were asking for at the March school board work session. Justice Knox leaders, more than 80 altogether, then went back to the regular school board meeting in March to thank the Superintendent, his staff and Board members for presenting the requested data.
